We have one of Moriha's first puppies, "Riko". Just wanted to comment on how beautiful the new puppies are and to saw what awesome people Kathy and DJ are. Riko us our second Akita. We had our first for 11.5 years. You never think the second will even match up, but we have found an awesome dog in Riko. I am so glad I took the time to find Kathy as a breader. Your home page captivated me...I am a big fan of the 'bear headed' Akitas. I have loved Akitas for a good 15 years...and finally got one about 6 years ago... I am interested in a female puppy for a pet. I have previuosly owned Akitas and are well aware of the concerns of the breed. I would like the puppy to have a black mask, the rest of the dog can be any color, or a combination of colors. I would like to purchase the puppy in the next several months, but can wait for the right puppy if necessary, but would like to have the dog for at least a few months prior to next winter. I would like a couple of months for outside training, before I do some inside training. I do have a six foot high wood fence around the entire yard. I will be submitting an application for your consideration. If you would like pictures of our house I can take some digital pictures and e-mail to you. I would like to purchase a dog from close to home so I can visit the site several times to observe the puppies that are available. I look forward to hearing from you. You come highly recommended.

Hello, I've been an Akita owner/breeder for 2 years now. I've raised German Sheperds for 12 years and when I found interests in the Akita I fell in love with the breed. I'm a former K-9 officer for 6 years, and all I ever worked with is German Sheperds. The Akita to me is far more intelligent than German Sheperds, and for a fact more powerful. So to make a long story short, I raise two of my favorite breeds and I have to keep a solid separation from all my males. And to add to this I have looked your web site pictures and you have beautiful dogs. Keep on breeding, not for the love of money, but for the love of the breed.

I began my life with Akitas in 1987; in February 2000, I had to put my last Akita down due to an auto immune disorder. He was nearly 13 years old at the time of his death. He was my very best friend, but he was also one of those Akitas who would steal the judges heart when he stepped into the show ring. If I were in the market for another Akita, I would certainly consider your kennel as a place to acquire one.

My interests now are geared to 'rescue' work; Currently I have a rescue Alaskan Husky/Wolf mix; the most recent addition is a German Shepherd who had been abused, the abandoned. I also am working with a group who rescues wolves which have been acquired by humans as pets not realizing what a responsibility they are. I thought I had the "bug" when I brought my new akita puppy home. He was to be my companion as well as to our other dog. He's been the protector and playful puppy; even more so when our daughter was born! I have always admired akitas and wished to have one some day. I truly love this breed. Lovely website!!

Your website caught my eye when I was viewing another website and say a picture of "Gunner". We purchased two Akitas in February of 2002; our male is the spitting image of Gunner. His name is Kazari's Invisible Sun (Ivan)...he is nearly 10 years old. Our female is all white with a black mask. When we purchased them, there was no guarantee that our female would ever have puppies as her last breeder did a very poor job in taking care of her and her last litter of ten puppies. As a result, three puppies died and the mother nearly died...the vet suspected that her uterus was severly damaged.

In the last 12 months, she has had two false pregancies. We fiqured our male was too old, or she was unable to conceive. To our wonderful surprise...she whelped a litter four weeks ago. She had four beautiful black and white pups (All black with white chests and white stockings.) We are very new at this and our just learning the basics.

All of the puppies appear to have the "look" of an Akita, with type, soundness and structure. Their heads are large, coats are double-coated, ears small, and tails are just beginning to lay over their backs. I have a few concerns, that an expert like you, maybe can answer for me.

1. Both male puppies had blck/white noses when born; only one of the puppies' noses has now turned completely black. The other puppy's nose is still clearly half black and half white (including the inside of one nostril being white.) I am fully aware of the Breed Standard...and a "butterfly" nose is considered a disqualification. The puppies are almost four weeks old (Born February 17, 2003) - What is the liklihood of his nose turning completely black? I am concerened, as we have never registered AKC puppies before, and I thought I have to register the litter by 6 weeks old. Should he be registered?

2. The other male puppy appears to have somewhat of a "flat" coat, compared to his three littermates. Which is surprising, considering both of the parents have exceptional coats.

3. Last question - we are surprised at the coloring of the puppies....as our male is black and tan, with one white paw and a white blaze on his chest. (Very similar to "Gunner" bred by you). Our female is all white with a black mask. The puppies are all clearly black with white paws and white chests/underbellies/or a white blaze. Is it normal for a puppy or a complete litter to NOT resemble the color markings of either parent?

Any suggestions you have for us are greatly appreciated.....as we are still in shock that we actually have puppies.

I am in love with akitas. I have my second one now, Sabaku Kuma (Desert Bear), she is a ninety pound female, grey with a black mask. She is wonderful and everything an Akita should be, especially the description I often see in Akita books that "they are more catlike than doglike". She is a huge part of my family. My first Akita, Nikko San (Shinning Sun)was a pinto male, with a solid black head, lots of flash, a little small in stature (85 pounds), but had the heart of an animal three times his size. He lived to be 12, and I cherised every moment of it. I want another male (companion pet) in the next year or two and I have been looking at Akita breeder websites for a few months. Your philosophy and dedication to the breed has led me to write this message. I will fill out an application for you, and keep an eye on your breedings. We bought our first Akita from Susan, a Widowmaker daughter, Sadie. We had seen Kareem in the ring at 18 mos of age and all I knew was that I wanted one like that. We purchased Sadie that same year and finished her. I stayed in touch with Susan and when she retired Kareem from the ring he came to us at 5 and stayed with us until he died from cancer at 10. We lost Sadie about 3 years ago. We have finally decided to get another Akita and a friend of ours happened upon your website. When he opened the site I said "Oh, my gosh - It's Kareem" and low and behold it was his line. Please e-mail me back about puppies. We are in no rush and want to try to once again get the one little girl that's meant to be ours.

Loved your website. I own a long-haired male akita whose name is Kuma. His sire was Doubletake's First Knight--Nitro, whose sire was your Rifle. My boy is so sweet and always happy. After reading about Rifle, I know know that it's in his genes.

I would just like to express my congratulations on Cuervo's great showing at the Eukanuba show. The fact that he didn't place in the Working Group was a travesty. Even the expert TV commentator remarked how he should be a favorite for an outright group win.Never the less, what a fine speciman Cuervo Gold is....simply magnificent. May he live a long and happy life, getting many offspring to grace our world with more fine Akitas.

Hi folks, we love our 8yr old Akita, but are devastated to learn she has hip displaysia, we have her on glucosamine tabs, and she is much better. Keesha has picked up an upper respiratory infection, and we have her on meds, oh god, we cant stand the thought to ever lose her. Do you know how we can prevent this from ever happening again??? or do Akitas have this ailment time to time?? Please write us back, we are desperate for answers how this virus came upon her??? I am a friend of Kim and Matt Howell...through them we came to love akita's!....8 years ago Niko became part of our family....he has adjusted to our two children (5 & 2) and most recently annie (a kitten)....we have experienced two knee surgries, a stomache surgery due to bloat(we were given a 50/50 chance that Niko would survive)..he still acts like a puppy through it all...we love him dearly and hope to have another akita in our family next year. Can you tell me if you plan to have available puppies?

It is so great to hear postive things about Akitas. We adopted one without knowing much about the breed. Thunder is a 3 year old male who was nueterd a month ago. We have had some trouble because he bit a neighbors dog. She has made life miserable to the point that we were looking to move. Her and another woman wanted him to be put down. We took him back to the Humane Society because he had supposedly torn the beagle from head to toe and we were afraid they would try and take him away. We over-reacted but we were scared. We went back and got him back when we found out the doctors report called the bite a simple wound. Can you tell me something? If he was truely dog aggressive would he have run after the dog after I got him off? He let me hold him without squirming to go after it. We are now looking for a behavoirist and trainer. It didn't take us long to love him and it is so nice coming home to him.
